Internship Application and Internship Report Guideline

Important Information Regarding Compulsory Internship/Course Selection!

Students, who have completed their compulsory internship, are now required to register for their internship courses during the first semester following their internship.

This rule, which will begin with students performing internships during the summer of the 2024-2025 academic year, will continue in the same manner in subsequent years.

Students, who complete an internship during the summer semester of the 2024-2025 academic year must register for the internship course along with their other courses during the 2025-2026 fall semester course registration.

The internship course will not be included in the weekly schedule and will not be counted toward the semester course load. If you do not register for the internship course listed in your curriculum on the course registration page, your internship grade will not be entered into the system.

There are two 20-day mandatory internships in the Civil Engineering Department curriculum:

• CIVEST300 (or ST204) – 20-day Office or Construction Site
• CIVEST400 (or ST304) – 20-day Office or Construction Site

Internship Application Information and Requirements:

All mandatory and voluntary internship applications must be submitted through the Internship Management System (SYS).

Civil Engineering students are required to perform a 40 days compulsory internship before graduation. Your internships are held in the Summer at the end of the 2nd grade and in the Summer at the end of the 3rd grade, for 20 days each (40 days in total). There is no order in office or construction site internships.

If there are public holidays within the 20 days of the internship, the internship dates should be adjusted by excluding the public holidays to ensure a total of 20 workdays.

Saturdays can be counted as workdays if the Internship Committee Members are notified of the intention to continue the internship on Saturdays. If the internship will be done on Saturdays, the student must obtain a certified (signed, sealed or signed, stamped) letter from the institution stating that the internship will be done on Saturdays and add this letter to the internship documents.

The internship process is administered by the Career Guidance Centre and Internship Commission. NOTE: The grades of your internships can be seen on your transcript in the fall semester. The grade of the internship you did in the summer in the 2nd year will appear in the junior year and the grade of the internship you did in the summer of the junior year will appear in the senior year.

NOTE: Internship dates must not overlap with summer school dates. Internships cannot be conducted during summer school periods. However, internships can be carried out during the summer school period on days when the student does not have exams, provided that the internship duration is the same and consists of at least three days per week.

Internship Application Deadlines:

Both mandatory and voluntary internship applications must be submitted via Internship Management System (SYS) no later than 15 days before the start date of the internship.

Internship Application Documents:

1. Internship Application Form – The Internship Application Form is completed by selecting the "Internship Application Form" option under the "Applications" tab in the left menu on the Internship Management System (SYS) main page. Click on the “Add New” button in the upper left corner to fill out the form.
2. Eligibility Certificate – The Eligibility Certificate obtained in PDF format from the e-devlet portal should be uploaded to the system using the "Add File" option.

Internship Application Process:

1. Before starting the internship, complete the "Internship Acceptance Form" on Internship Management System (SYS) and upload the "Eligibility Certificate" to the system.
2. Send an online approval notification to the organization where the internship will take place and obtain their approval.
3. After the company's approval, obtain approval from the Department Internship Committee members.

Documents to Be Submitted at the End of the Internship:

At the end of the internship, the documents must be submitted by the student to the Research Assistants of the Civil Engineering Department within 7 workdays. The required documents are as follows:

1. Internship Report (Each page must be stamped and signed by the Authorized Internship Supervisor as Civil Engineer. Use “Izmir University of Economics Internship Report Cover Page” which is given in Internship Report Template)
2. Intern Evaluation Form (It must be delivered in a sealed envelope and have to filled, signed and stamped by the authorized firm representative. The closed envelope must be sealed or stamped where it is closed and must also be signed where it is closed.) -  https://kariyer.ieu.edu.tr/en/formlar

At the end of the internship, internship documents must be submitted by the students to the civil engineering department research assistants. The documents can also be delivered to the research assistants by cargo.

Internship Report must be thought of as a technical report. Each question must be thought of as a section topic. Each section must be named appropriately. No additional questions for CIVE students.

The report and Internship Place Evaluation Form must be in English. It must be well written, adhering to technical writing standards. All figures and tables must have numbers and captions. They must be referenced and explained in the main text of the report.

IMPORTANT: Each page of the Internship Report must be stamped and signed by the Authorized Internship Supervisor Civil Engineer. The Authorized Internship Supervisor must be a Civil Engineer.

The student’s internship, with the approval of the internship committee members and the institution where the internship is performed, may exceed 20 days if it does not overlap with the student’s academic terms.

For the internship application, the student must apply individually to the relevant places, considering whether the internship is in an office or construction site.

Voluntary Internship:

Voluntary internship applications are made through Internship Management System (SYS) in the same manner as mandatory internship applications. For voluntary internships, it is not necessary to complete the "Internship Report, Intern Evaluation Form, and Internship Site Evaluation Form."
